· EUROPEAN TALENT COMPETITION 2025 · Filmscore and Sound Design

SoundTrack_Cologne 22 (July 8th – 11th, 2025) invites budding composers and sound designers to compose music or create the sound design for a short film in the EUROPEAN TALENT COMPETITION and to apply in the categories WDR FILMSCORE AWARD and SOUND DESIGN.

The aim is to musically interpret and connect the visuals and narration of the short film “BLOOM” (Director: Michael Dämmig, graduation film at the ifs - International Film School Cologne).

Contestants may either compose the score or create the sound design for the short film and may also work together in a team with another composer or sound designer. Sound designers in particular are encouraged to submit sound-only projects!

The twelve finalists will be presented with their work to the audience and jury during the SoundTrack_Cologne competition screening. The award ceremony will take place during the official gala on Friday, July 11th, 2025.

The winner of the WDR FILMSCORE AWARD will have the opportunity to record an original composition of 7 – 9 minutes length with the WDR Funkhausorchester – for many young composers this could be their first opportunity to record with a major orchestra and to fill out their film-scoring calling card.

The winner for the best SOUND DESIGN will receive a 5.1 cinematic mix down for a short film in the prestigious sound mixing studio TORUS POST.

The deadline for submitting the application is April 15th, 2025, 10:00AM CET!

The contest is open to all active students in the fields of composing, music, sound design, sound and editing at a European film or music school (without age limit); or any young European creatives up to and including 30 years of age.

SoundTrack_Cologne 22 (8. – 11. Juli 2025) lädt angehende KomponistInnen und SounddesignerInnen ein, im Wettbewerb EUROPEAN TALENT COMPETITION einen Kurzfilm neu zu vertonen und sich in den Kategorien WDR FILMSCORE AWARD und SOUNDDESIGN zu bewerben.

Ziel ist es, Bildebene und Narration des Kurzfilms „BLOOM“ (Regie: Michael Dämmig, Abschlussfilm an der ifs - Internationale Filmschule Köln) musikalisch neu zu interpretieren.

Die BewerberInnen können entweder Score oder Sounddesign einreichen. Sie können auch als Team aus KomponistIn und SounddesignerIn zusammenarbeiten.
Insbesondere SounddesignerInnen sind dazu aufgefordert, gerne auch Nur-Ton-Lösungen einzureichen!

Die zwölf FinalistInnen werden im Rahmen von SoundTrack_Cologne mit ihren Arbeiten dem Publikum und der Jury vorgestellt. Die Preisverleihung findet während der offiziellen Gala am Freitag, den 11. Juli 2025 statt.

Der oder die GewinnerIn des WDR FILMSCORE AWARD erhält eine Aufnahmesession für eine eigene Filmkomposition mit einer Länge von 7-9 Minuten mit dem WDR Funkhausorchester.

Für viele NachwuchskomponistInnen ist das die erste Möglichkeit, eine filmmusikalische Visitenkarte mit großem Orchester aufzunehmen. 

Das beste SOUNDDESIGN gewinnt eine 5.1 Kurzfilm-Kinomischung in dem renommierten Tonstudio TORUS POST.

Einsendeschluss für den Wettbewerb ist der 15.04.2025, 10:00AM!

Teilnahmeberechtigt sind alle Studierenden der Fachbereiche Musik und Ton europäischer Hochschulen (keine Altersbegrenzung) sowie europäische Kreative bis zu einem Alter von einschließlich 30 Jahren.

Das Leben ist nicht für alle gleich sonnig: Karl, ein Baum, der weniger Glück hat als die Bäume um ihn herum, findet in einer heruntergefallenen Mango eine Chance auf soziale Akzeptanz. Doch dank eines frechen kleinen Affen, der auf der Jagd nach Nahrung ist, erkennt Karl, was ihn wirklich glücklich macht.
