Music creation develops, never stops and is always on the cutting edge, so to know what living composers are doing here and now is to witness the conception of new music.
See The Sound, the film festival that annually brings the best of film music to Cologne has in this year's edition included a documentary that explores the intimate creation of Heiner Goebbels' latest work, "A House of Call". The film accompanies the composer through the three-year process until its premiere with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra - and relates it to the most outstanding phases in his oeuvre.
In a career spanning over 50 years, Goebbels has been a composer, musical theatre director, stage designer, instrumentalist, visual artist and university professor. His compositions for ensembles and big orchestras published by Ricordi Berlin are currently performed worldwide, as well as several of his music theatre works and staged concerts, produced mainly by Théâtre Vidy Lausanne, the Ensemble Modern and International Festival of the Arts RUHRTRIENNALE.

Visualizing New Music
A panel dedicated to videos of new music will also take place in the framework of See The Sound.
Music videos are associated with the marketing of popular music artists. However, new music performers and filmmakers are also trying to visualise serious music to achieve visibility and develop innovative ideas.
The director Martina Pfaff and the composer Camille van Lunen will analyse, on Friday, 23 June, the convergence between new music and video and the most creative developments in this field.
This event, moderated by Cornelia Köhler, is held in cooperation with the Women in Film and Television, WiFT.
